Teaching at the University of St. Andrews
I am the Director of Teaching in Mathematics and Statistics at the University of St. Andrews and my teaching largely involves teaching masters level courses in statistical modelling. These include a more introductory course (MT5753) and an advanced course (MT5757).
These courses cover nonlinear methods and methods appropriate for correlated data:
-
Generalized Linear Models (GLMs)
-
Generalized Additive Models (GAMs)
-
Generalized Least Squares (GLS)
-
Generalized Estimating Equations (GEEs)
-
Generalized Linear Mixed Effects Models (GLMMs)
-
Generalized Additive Mixed Models (GAMMs)
To make the course material more accessible to students, I tend to base my teaching inside case studies and the courses are well grounded in practical work to ensure students gain hands-on modelling experience.
Most recently the case studies involve environmental impact assessment for large off-scale windfarms in Denmark.
